White Peony Tea Caipirinha Recipe

This tangy 4-ingredient Brazilian cocktail is easy to make and full of flavor with the addition of antioxidant-rich white peony tea! It’ll leave your taste buds begging for more. 

Cachaca rum is the most important ingredient for making a traditional caipirinha. This rum is native to Brazil and made from sugarcane juice (yum!). The rum is aged in indigenous wood barrels that can give each brand of cachaca its own unique flavor, some may have more floral-grassy notes, while others have vanilla-cinnamon notes. Although it isn’t as well known as traditional white rum, cachaca has gained popularity and can easily be found in most liquor stores. 

The cocktail starts by muddling sugar with lime to express the juice. This recipe uses agave nectar for its sweetness and ability to blend into liquids easily, giving a seamless sweetness in every sip. 

White peony tea sneaks into the recipe, adding subtle floral notes with anti-inflammatory properties. This white tea is less oxidized than green or black tea, preserving its precious catechins that help support the immune system and fight against free radicals.

If that’s not enough, white tea aids in digestion and provides a calm energy with a moderate amount of caffeine. Since there is some caffeine in white tea, enjoy this cocktail in the afternoon or early evening, well before bedtime. The energy you experience from white tea is more of an uplifting focused energy as opposed to the jittery feeling coffee can create. 

The ingredients are shaken with ice before being poured into a cocktail glass. You can also strain the drink over ice if you prefer to have the muddled limes separated.

Ingredients

  • 1 lime sliced into quarters
  • 1 tbsp agave nectar
  • 2 oz. cachaca rum
  • 1 sachet Pique White Peony tea
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Muddle limes, agave nectar and tea crystals in the bottom of a pint glass until juices from limes are released. Add ice to pint glass followed by rum. Shake vigorously for 5 seconds.
  • Pour entire mixture into a cocktail glass. Enjoy!
