Matcha Blueberry Pea Flower Smoothie Bowl Recipe

Turn your breakfast into an antioxidant-packed work of art with no artificial colors or sweeteners. This smoothie bowl uses two vibrant teas to create a unique treat that’s good for you.

Smoothie bowls are a thicker version of a smoothie you’d typically drink with a straw. Instead, ingredients are blended using ice and frozen fruit to create a bowl of delicious flavor with endless topping options.

Matcha green tea is abundant in antioxidants thanks to a concentrated amount of chlorophyll, the green pigment that gives matcha its signature color. Matcha tea is grown in the shade resulting in less photosynthesis and increased chlorophyll. Chlorophyll helps the body make red blood cells that deliver oxygen throughout the body. Good circulation throughout the body helps support healthy body functions.

If you’re looking for a calm, focused energy then reach for matcha tea. L-theanine, an amino acid that produces a jitter-free alertness can be found in matcha tea. L-theanine may also support brain function and improve memory.

Butterfly Pea Flower tea is naturally a richly-pigmented blue color, but its magical properties don’t end there. Butterfly pea flower tea changes colors when its pH changes with the addition of acid ingredients. Depending on the acidity of ingredients like lemon juice, the blue tea can change to purple or bright pink in color. Butterfly tea has a delicate flavor with earthy notes. Its mild flavor makes it great combined with other flavors. For this smoothie bowl, we paired butterfly tea with frozen banana for sweetness and blueberries for a hint of tartness.

Dairy-free yogurt adds probiotics without the lactose. There are many varieties of dairy-free yogurt made with coconut milk, cashews, and almond milk. To keep the recipe low on sugar, ripe fruit are the only sweeteners. Raw honey can be added to the smoothie bowl or drizzled on top if more sweetness is desired.

Top your smoothie bowls with:

  • Fresh fruit
  • Mint
  • Coconut flakes
  • Granola
  • Cacao nibs
  • Dried fruit
  • Nuts
