Goji Orange Pu'er Green Tea Recipe

This superfood-infused green tea helps support optimal digestion and gut health with fermented tea leaves and antioxidant-rich goji berries.

Fermented green tea has a distinct robust flavor from tea leaves that contain good-for-you microbes. The gut is the epicenter of the immune system, and microbes act like fertilizer for the gut, delivering beneficial bacteria to help restore balance. When the gut is balanced, it functions well and keeps away unpleasant side effects of imbalance, like bloating and gas. The bitterness of pu’er green tea helps to stimulate gastric juices and aid in digestion.

Pu’er green tea is ideal for anyone who doesn’t enjoy the strong flavor of kombucha or other fermented drinks, but want to reap the benefits of probiotics.

Since pu’er tea has a bitter flavor, it lends itself to pairing with dried fruit like goji berries and orange peel. Orange peel adds a citrus flavor and aroma while goji berries add sweet fruit flavor. As the dried fruit steeps in the tea, it will plump and release its flavor and sweetness into the tea.

Goji berries are considered a superfruit and for good reason. They’re a rich source of amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins. Vitamins A and C support the immune system and fight off free radical damage, keeping cells functioning properly. Dried goji berries are chewy and provide a candy-like treat that is healthy. Add goji berries to oatmeal, smoothie bowls and yogurt to reap their benefits.

If you find that the tea is still too bitter for your liking, stir in a tablespoon of raw honey to sweeten. To enjoy this tea during the warmer months, chill in the refrigerator and serve over ice for a refreshing probiotic elixir.
